I get questions about this facial and I know, the word CBD is hot right now. Everyone seems to be buzzing about it, but there is a lot of stigma around it as well. Many people think a CBD infused facial will get them "high", but that's not the case.
Here are some FAQ's about the CBD Facial and products.
What is CBD?
CBD, which stands for cannabidiol, is an active molecule found in cannabis. CBD is just one of the cannabinoids found in the hemp and marijuana plants(there are over 100).
Are hemp and marijuana the same thing?
Nope! While both the hemp and marijuana plants contain CBD, they are different plants of the same species, Cannabis. The marijuana plant has broader leaves, a dense flower bud, is short and bushy and contains over 0.3% THC, which is what gives it's psychoactive properties (aka, a high). Hemp, on the other hand, contains less than 0.3% THC and the plant is tall with thin leaves near the top of it's strong, fibrous stalk. Hemp is biodegradable, recyclable, and fibrous which is why you see it manufactured into clothing and other products. There are even uses to use it as an alternative to steel. In skincare, the CBD is isolated and added to these products.
Will you get high?
No! All of the products in CBD Facials are made from hemp-derived CBD, which will not give you a high. Nothing will come up on a drug test, you won’t smell like weed and you won't feel anything but normal relaxation from a glorious facial.
What does CBD do?
In skincare, CBD increases hydration and reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, acne, etc. CBD is rich in antioxidants and vitamins like A, D, and E. CBD also contains essential fatty acids like omega 3 and 6, which are important for the overall health and appearance of skin, because they support a healthy acid mantle. It helps create balance in the skin and aids other products in absorbing better.
How does CBD work its magic in our bodies?
We all have an endocannabinoid system, even animals and this system is made up of receptors located in areas like our brain, stomach, and central nervous system, which are responsible for maintaining our body’s proper function. CBD is able to find balance, or, homeostasis in our bodies by helping areas in need.
What if you're pregnant?
When CBD is applied topically there isn't enough THC entering the system to be a concern to those who are pregnant. However, if you have any questions, please consult a medical professional. What if I'm an oncology patient or have just finished treatment? You are more than welcome to come in and get this facial. I'm Oncology trained and this line I use is Oncology safe and formulated without parabens, phthalates, fragrances, etc. There are parts of the facial that you may not be able to experience depending on your current treatment, if you have a port implanted, if you have Lymphedema, etc, but we will work through it.
Can you be allergic to CBD?
There haven't been any allergic reactions that I'm aware of at all, however for facials, these products are added to skin care products that may contain nut oils, butters, peptides, essential oils, etc. If there's an ingredient you are allergic to, make sure to let me know ASAP so I can double check products for you.
Is CBD intended for everyday use?
CBD can be used daily if you choose to. For skincare, obviously you'd have a daily routine. For ingestion of tinctures, capsules, etc, you can definitely do it daily or as needed. Many people take CBD as an alternative to western medicine and have success managing stress, pain, headaches, etc. Some people only choose to use it when they really need it. It's all up to you, but you can always consult a medical professional.
Can you use too much CBD?
There are no reports of anyone overdosing from CBD or of any toxic effects from taking it or using it, but again, you can consult a medical professional. When ingesting, you do have to start small with doses to build up to a dose that works for your body.
What techniques are used during the facial?
The same techniques are used. Every step of the facial is using a CBD infused product. There are many places only using a CBD infused massage oil or only a CBD infused mask, but every product is infused from the Cleanser to the Lip Treatment. We do a typical facial by double cleansing, exfoliating, massaging, masking, adding serums, eye treatment, lip treatment, moisturizer and SPF. We also use a CBD oil during the massage which is great for sore muscles, relieving headaches and more.
